Commando Miniatures is a manufacturer of 28mm figures the first of which are now available for purchase. The period covered by our initial range is the post-World War Two “Retreat from Empire” that both Britain and France went through from the 1950s until the end of the ‘70s – Malaya, Borneo, Aden, Kenya, Cyprus, Algeria, Indo-China and many other places.
Our first figures are for the Confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia that saw 27,000 British and Commonwealth troops involved in operations in Borneo over the period 1962 to 1967. Figures are also be suitable for the conflicts in Aden and Southern Arabia in the 1960-70s and can be converted to Paras or Marines. Their enemies, the Indonesian Regulars and Arab rebels for Aden are now also available. There will be more to follow.
Commando Miniatures’ philosophy is to provide a basic figure which can be used for a number of locations and through use of our alternate heads and equipment packs allows buyers to customise their figures so that no two men in a patrol need look alike.
I have been a wargamer for many years and Commando Miniatures is based on my experience of what a good, responsive miniature company should be – because of that I am always happy to take suggestions for improvements and ideas for new figures from customers.
Commando Miniatures would like to thank -
One of the earliest lessons we have learned (apart from the fact that everything takes longer than we thought it would) is that producing wargames figures and models is a collaborative effort. So, in the interest of ensuring that credit is given where it is due, Commando Miniatures would like to thank the following people without whom nothing could have been achieved : -
Sholto Humphries of Scheltrum Miniatures (www.scheltrum.co.uk) for all sorts of advice and guidance on setting up a miniatures company, putting us in touch with the right people, for many trips to and from the caster and for allowing us to use a corner of his stall at shows.
Martin Baker for producing simply superb figure sculpts.
Simon Lee (of Simon's Sculpts) for equally superb vehicles.
Stuart Insch for advice, encouragement, a continuous stream of suggestions as to what we should do next and for being our man in Borneo (at least for a week!).
Charlotte Lymburn for all sorts of advice on how to set up a website, trade on line and send out professional-looking newsletters and getting us onto Facebook (www.everyclouddesigns.com)
Freddie and Evie Lymburn for helping with the post.
Andrew Craig for being an absolute mine of useful information on all things military, especially the Indonesian armed forces and their weapons and equipment. G'day!
Eric Duncanson for helping out at the shows and being second man on the Commando Miniatures White Van. Not to mention Eric's Dad, Norman, for being the third man on the team at the Falkirk Show.
John Morris for his superb figure painting which is now used on our title page.
Mark and his team at Reiver Castings for doing all the technical stuff with hot metal.
Mrs Commando for continued encouragement despite years of putting up with a wargamer in the family, with hordes of “wee men” and boxes of buildings, vehicles and scenery all over the house, now much worse as we are actually manufacturing the stuff.
